Dr Gemma Milligan PhD, MSc, BSc(Hons), BASES, FHEA, CSci - joined the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science, University of Portsmouth in March 2008 as a Research Assistant and currently holds a Senior Lecturing position in Sport, Exercise and Health.

She completed her PhD in Fitness Standards for the Maritime Coastguard Agency and Oil and Gas Industry, in 2013 under the supervision of Prof. Mike Tipton. Subsequent research projects have been in the area of Occupational Physiology, having worked for such companies as the Energy Institute, G⁺ Offshore Energy, The Royal National Lifeboat Institution, Royal Air Force and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. In addition Gemma works as a Strength and Conditioning coach supporting a number of sports. Previous employment was at the Environmental Medicine Unit at the Institute of Naval Medicine (INM) for 4 years as a Scientific Officer (Occupational Physiology).
