Andreja Švajger has worked her entire career as an occupational therapist in vocational rehabilitation, employed in the University Rehabilitation Institute, Republic of Slovenia.
She was one of the founding team members in the Vocational rehabilitation center, that was inside the institute established in 1984. She contributed to the development of the occupational therapy role in the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team for supporting persons with different disabilities in the process of returning to work or entering the labor market. Besides being a practicing occupational therapist Andreja Švajger has in her career also acted as a case manager, team leader and service manager. She has always studied professional and research literature in order to support her practice and has followed the WORK Journal since its early years. In 2004 she graduated the European Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at the Amsterdam University for Applied Sciences. In her research Andreja Švajger has mostly applied a qualitative approach, focusing on experience of persons with disabilities and occupational therapists. As the first author she has also published 2 articles in WORK.
Working in a teaching hospital, Andreja Švajger has been involved in fieldwork education of occupational therapists at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Health Sciences for over 25 years. Since 2014 she is participating in the same program also as a lecturer in the course teaching occupational therapy in work an employment related programs.
She has been a member of the WORK Editioral Board since 2013.
